Where should you start a bathroom remodel? You should always start off by planning and planning and planning some more. We understand that envisioning a bathroom remodel can be very scary, exciting, and most of all very nerve-racking! But all of the stressing over a bathroom renovation will definitely be worth it. A well thought-out plan will keep things moving forward.
Here are seven things to know when starting your bathroom remodel.
When does the bathroom have to be finished? Do you have another bathroom you can use? If not, you’ll need to find another place to stay. Make sure you’re prepared for this possibility.
Do you need new tile? New lights? What kind of vanity do you want? What kind of bathtub do you need? Do you need to move a wall? Having a list will help when you meet with your contractor.
The best way to find inspiration is to go on Houzz and create your own “idea book” or go to Pinterest and create your own board. There you will find hundreds of new ideas from vanity ideas to décor ideas.
And remember there are things that come up in a bathroom remodel (like problems with the plumbing) so be ready for the unexpected.
Will you need plumbers, electricians, or a carpenter? One great way to go about all this is hiring one general contractor. Your general remodeling contractor will take care of everything and will make the job so much easier, reducing your stress level.
Don’t forget the little things such as where the outlets will go. Where do you want the lights to go? How many lights will you need? Will you have three-light scones or single light scones? How many mirrors will you have? One or two? Where will you place the towel bar? Will you have shower shelves? How many will you have?
Go to your local Lowes or Home Depot and look at all the materials yourself. When you go to your local Lowes or Home Depot remember to take your Houzz “idea book’ or Pinterest “board.” Make sure to take pictures of the materials you like and then go home and compare and make your decision. Remember the smaller the tile the more grout you will need which means less slippery floors.
