Some tips from architects in the industry on Reddit, for those coming into the industry. While there are many different experiences, these are a few of our favorite tips for up-and-coming architects.
2. You’re going to learn more by experience than anything else.
3. “Always as why”. In architecture and design, your work is often about solving problems and filling needs. Asking why something was done a certain way will give you a much better understanding of what the problem they were solving was, and perhaps even come to your own creative solutions.
4. To add to that, ask General Contractors and tradespeople as many questions as possible. Architects should really utilize their wealth of knowledge in real world construction to improve their work and the practicality of their designs.
5. “If you can’t figure out how it’s going to go together neither will anyone else”, this statement speaks for itself.
6. ALWAYS verify that your measurements are accurate.
7. Networking with other Architects of various specialities, Engineers, Designers, and General Contractors is key to building success in this industry. As a General Contractor in Los Angeles, we work hand in hand with many Architects. This way, when clients contact us and tell us about what they are looking to do with their home, we can connect them with the right Architect. Some Architects thrive in Mediterranean home design, others Modern, smart home design, remodeling, ADU’s. Get to know General Contractors in the area and show them your work, give them a feel for your designs, you never know who you’ll connect with and what doors will be opened. If you are an Architect, Engineer, or Designer, contact us, we would love to meet you!
