Remodeling is a great way to spruce up your home and add value. Deciding where to start can be a little tricky, though. Here are some renovation projects to make your residence feel brand-new.

1.   Insulate Your Attic

Your attic may not be the most prominent feature in your house, but it’s worth updating. Your attic is a great place to keep items that don’t fit on the main floor. Having increased storage will also attract potential buyers.

Properly insulating your attic helps keep the temperature consistent. This saves you money on your electricity bills and makes the space more energy-efficient.

Here are the two main types of insulation materials:

  • Loose fill: This type consists of packaged fibers blown into place with special equipment. It’s best for attics that have irregular joint spacing or lower clearance.
  • Batting: This is a flexible material that comes in rolls of various sizes and thicknesses. They work best with attics that have standard joint spacing and more headroom.

2.   Buy a Steel Door

Steel doors provide durability and security. They help protect against natural elements and intruders. A steel entryway is also more cost-effective than other types. Another perk is steel doors are insulated to help save energy.

Here are the steps you would take to install the door:

  1. Measure the opening.
  2. Center and then test-fit the frame.
  3. Outline the molding and cut along it.
  4. Cut the drip edge.
  5. Check the door before installation and center it.
  6. Examine the door jamb.
  7. Cut the shims and install the hinges.
  8. Remove the resting brackets.
  9. Install new anchor screws and molding.
  10. Apply caulk and adjust the threshold.
  11. Replace the casting and cut the shims.
  12. Install a new lock and doorknob.
3. Remodeling Your Kitchen

This is a great way to update appliances and make your space more functional. Here are some projects to consider that involve minimal construction:

  • Upgrade to smart appliances.
  • Paint the walls or cabinets.
  • Update your backsplash.
  • Replace your countertops with quartz.

For more extensive renovations, you could replace your floors. Consider porcelain tile flooring for its durability and luxurious look. For larger construction projects, think about removing walls to create a higher ceiling or let in more light. These changes will make your home appealing to potential buyers, allowing you to raise your asking price.

4. Replace Your Garage Door

Your garage door allows you to move in and out of your home. It also protects your cars from natural elements. Replacing it can ensure it functions properly. A new garage door also increases your home’s curb appeal. A more updated look can help complement the exterior design of your house.

Consider getting a steel door that is durable, cost-effective, and requires little maintenance. You can install the door yourself. Just contact the manufacturer for instructions. Here are some seasonal maintenance tasks you will need to perform:

  • Cleaning off the debris and rust from the tracks
  • Tightening up the hardware
  • Inspecting the rollers
  • Checking the cables and pulleys
  • Lubricating moving parts
5.   Replace Your Siding

You want the structure of your home to remain sturdy. Replacing your siding can help keep your family safe. Since appraisers look at every detail of your home, new siding can increase your home’s value. Consider adding vinyl siding, since it is more cost-effective and requires minimal upkeep.

You will most likely hire a professional contractor to install the siding. If you want to do it yourself , you will need the following materials:

  • A hammer
  • Tin snips
  • A level
  • Tape measure
  • Chalk line
  • Ladder
6.  Add a Deck

Adding a deck can give you an entertaining outdoor space. It’s also a good way to enjoy a meal with your family outside. Patios are a bonus to buyers looking in residential areas with warmer climates, such as Malibu or Beverly Hills.

Consider adding a patio cover to provide some shade on hotter days. Here are some other deck decoration ideas to make the space feel more inviting:

  • Folded umbrellas
  • Oversized ottomans
  • Potted plants
  • Paper lanterns
  • Shelving
7. Put in a Pool

A pool can provide family fun in the summertime. It can be a great way to stay cool and save money on your energy bills. A pool can also add a sense of luxury to your residence, making it a selling point for potential buyers. It can also entice families looking to purchase a property.

This feature is especially desirable to buyers in warmer locations, such as Los Angeles.  Weather preferences are one of the top factors when considering where to live.

When installing your pool,  be sure you choose a leveled spot in your yard. If it’s on sloped land, the water levels can be uneven and the structure will be weaker.

8. Replace Your Windows

Over time, windows do require some maintenance. Here are some signs it may be time to replace your windows:

  • You feel a consistent draft.
  • The paint is peeling.
  • There are cracks in the windows.
  • There is condensation on the windows.
  • Your windows aren’t closing properly.

Replacing your windows also increases your home’s value. Windows are features that are easy to spot when potential buyers first arrive. Appraisers also look at them when examining your house’s structure. Adding new windows is also a good idea if you live on the hillside and have a nice outside view.

9.  Fix Your Roofing

The roof is an essential support structure for your residence. This is why it must be in top condition. It’s also one of the first things a buyer will notice when viewing your home.

Consider replacing the asphalt shingles to your roof. They will fit into your budget and are available in a variety of color options. Metal roofs are more expensive but last considerably longer.

10.  Repaint Your Walls

This is an easy way to cover up chips and scrapes and to give your home an updated look. When looking at new homes, the interior paint color typically stands out to buyers. This is why adding a fresh coat can increase your house’s value.

Consider these neutral color options to give your residence a classic look:

  • Cream
  • Light green
  • White
  • Blue
  • Beige
