Wall sconces are nothing new, but can sometimes be overlooked. A wall sconce is a kind of lighting that hangs from the wall as opposed to the ceiling. Wall sconces can save a lot of space and you can hide those annoying cords. After choosing all of the pendants and surface mount lighting for a room, sconces can add the ideal finishing touch. Balance is an important aspect of interior design. The objective is to uniformly light the space. Place the sconces just above your direct line of vision to achieve this and to increase the visual feeling of height in the room.
The bedroom is perfect for wall sconces. Most often you will see one on each side of the bed if there is space to do so. You should make sure the sconces are positioned with the purpose of making reading at night comfortable. The height of the bed should be taken into account. Be sure to use a range of lighting in the bedroom, this can include chandeliers, table lamps, ceiling lights, recess lighting, and wall sconces among others. Always use dimmers in your bedroom lights to produce a relaxing atmosphere.
Additionally, we typically include one or two sconces in the foyer as an ornamental and practical addition. Ensure that these are hanging correctly. Wall sconces are usually installed 60 to 72 inches from the floor and spaced six feet apart. The six-foot guideline, however, might not always be applicable. The choice of location depends on the length of your hallway and any important architectural details.
In the bathroom, usually sconces are hung by the vanity mirror, and sometimes the bathtub or shower. More lighting in the bathroom is always a good thing! Remember, with dimmer switches, you can have more control over the amount of lighting. So while you may want the lights bright while getting ready, you may want to dim them for a relaxing bath. Bathroom sconces should ideally be mounted 60–65 inches from the floor when placed on either side of the vanity. To avoid unpleasant shadows or glaring light, the sconce's height should be at or near eye level.
Wall sconces are also used as feature lighting; a focal point or area added visibility is helpful, above a work of art, a mantle, bookshelf, or display.
When should you choose your lighting fixtures during a home remodel? Preferably before the electrical junction box is installed. Depending on the sconce you choose, the height or location for mounting and wiring will vary, so it's best to have the location and fixture you want first.
A good designer will consider lighting in their design, but it’s always good to review the plans and make sure that what you want is represented.
