The construction industry uses different types of metals. Architects, builders, and designers use metal in manufacturing and construction due to their resistance to all forms of weather, durability, and strength. Some of the most used metals in the construction industry are steel, aluminum, stainless steel, copper, titanium, and brass.

Nowadays, most building materials come from metal materials, such as steel Insulated exterior access panels . However, there are advantages to every metal in the construction depending on what finish you want to achieve or the job you wish the particular metal to perform. Here are the most used metals in construction.

Steel

Steel is the most widely used and most common metal material in construction. It’s a go-to metal for many architects, builders, designers, and other personnel working in the construction industry. It can produce sustainable structures that are quick to build at a low price. It’s a model of strength and remains at the heart of building works where the need for this durability and hardness is paramount.

This material can be as varied in building structures like bridges to stadiums, skyscrapers to houses. It is also the most recyclable material making it a very eco-friendly option for construction, and it is also adaptable. While the primary use of this material is for its strength, steel also adds an aesthetic quality to every construction project. Its inherent strength and durability allow design flexibility in some parts of the infrastructure or building.

Aluminum

Most metal buildings nowadays are rarely built without incorporating aluminum as its physical finishes and properties make it an ideal material for construction projects. Aluminum is also popular and widely used in the construction industry. This type of metal material is strong yet lightweight compared to other metal materials in construction. Its versatility and fluidity provide architects and designers a great deal of scope as this material is applicable in various projects.

It is one of the most known metals on earth as they are as varied as roof covers, HVAC systems, ceilings, window frames, and massive structure projects such as bridges and stadiums. This type of metal is one of the most chosen metals for its durability, manageability, strength, and flexibility for different building applications.

Stainless Steel

This metal is favored extensively in the building construction industry due to its ability to provide extra support and strength to the building structure. It is also highly resistant to corrosion and can withstand cold and hot temperatures. Its aesthetic appearances make it such a well-known choice for architects and designers. These characteristics of stainless steel make it the most versatile metal available for use.

Copper

A more malleable and softer metal, a copper metal, is commonly used in the building industry, mainly the main component of pipes. This metal is resistant to corrosion and flexible, making this metal ideal for hot and cold water outlets and is also ideal and widely used for heating, ventilating air conditioning, or HVAC pipes application. It is also common in cladding, gas pipelines, rainwater systems, and more. Copper is also a highly conductive metal, making it essential for electrical systems.

Copper is known as one of the oldest, versatile engineering materials available in the construction industry. While this material is not as strong compared to other metal materials in the building, its durability and malleability make it essential and valuable in the construction industry.

Titanium

Titanium is among the strongest and durable metals available. It is another lightweight metal used in the construction industry. This metal is common in heating and cooling systems due to its natural resistance to corrosion and rust. However, titanium is not limited to HVAC systems only. It is common on piping systems and some security systems that install frames and plates for extra reinforcement in the building.

Brass

Brass metal is an alloy of copper-zinc. It also has several applications in construction. The common usage of brass metal in the building are doorknobs, locks, hinges, plumbing fittings, valves, electrical sockets, and low plugs requirement of friction. This metal is also resistant to corrosion and essential in building construction.

Iron

There are two forms of iron common in construction: wrought iron and cast iron, and both have their unique purpose in the industry. Cast iron is typical in building sewer pipes and sanitary fittings due to its corrosion resistance. Wrought iron has lower carbon content than cast iron and is common in construction beams, rafters, trusses, and better threading and welding qualities.

Many durable, flexible, reliable, and efficient types of metal are common in the construction industry. A building that uses metal materials is more versatile, cheaper, robust, and eco-friendly than other construction materials available in the market as steel products are easy to recycle. Using metal in construction, you will have a comprehensive option in the building design, and it is faster to complete the construction project that can withstand firmly during harsh weather.
