The standard full bathroom comes standard with 4 major features: shower, bathtub, sink, and toilet. But not every bathroom is a full bathroom. Some (half baths) have only the toilet and the sink, and this type of bathroom is usually found closer to the living room or a hallway that isn’t connected to a bedroom or guestroom. A three-quarter bathroom is a bathroom that only has the toilet, the shower, and the sink.
Taking out the bathtub is a relief to many who find that they rarely use their bathtubs anyway, and that it just gets in the way. However, if you’re remodeling a full bathroom and considering a three-quarter bathroom instead, you may worry about making the change. Is this the right choice for your home?
As long as you have one bathroom with a tub in it, you’re probably fine. Homeowners with small children, and elderly residents in the home, depend on having at least one bathtub in the house. But a small tub at the bottom of your shower isn’t the ideal anyway. If you have room, a large tub in a master bathroom is probably all you need.
Of course, buyers’ interest varies, so you may want to talk to a contractor or even a real estate agent before making the decision to change it.
Overall, you need to weigh the benefits of a three-quarter bath against the benefits of a bathtub. It might be nice to have a bathtub, just in case. But it might be nicer to have space to move around in the shower, an optional bench, elegant glass doors, and easy entry and exit. It’s your bathroom—do what’s best for you!
