When remodeling your kitchen, you have many considerations to make: choosing the right flooring, appliances, etc. Perhaps most importantly, you have to choose cabinetry. Your kitchen cabinets can set the tone for your kitchen, since they are arguably the most visual design element in the room. Cabinetry can also be one of the most expensive components of a kitchen remodel, so it’s important to be well informed of the different styles there are, and the budgets they fit. Keep reading to learn about some of the most common cabinetry styles there are, and how they can affect the look and feel of your kitchen—and your home.

Shaker

Shaker-style cabinet doors are considered very classic, and one of the most popular door styles in modern kitchens. These feature a five-piece flat-panel frame, which consists of a single flat center panel with four pieces framing it. Shaker-style cabinet doors can work for a variety of budgets and can look good in any kitchen since they have a very simple appearance.

Louvered

This type of door style is most commonly found on windows and furniture pieces, because the louvered design resembles shutters. This look of horizontal wood slats can add a very unique architectural feel to your kitchen, and are ideal in places that require ventilation—such as above your stovetop—thanks to their slatted design.

Flat

This design usually comes in decorative laminate or wood. Laminate can be budget-friendly, plus the look is simple and stylish. Flat cabinet doors feature hard lines and minimalist form, which makes them a great fit for contemporary and modern kitchen designs.

Inset

Ideal for homeowners with a higher kitchen remodeling budget, these cabinets get their name because the doors are set inside the cabinet frame instead of resting on the outside of the frame. Extremely precise measurements are used to ensure that the doors nest inside the frame and open and close properly.
