When you approach any large project that requires a significant investment in time and money, it’s always “worth it” to ask “is it worth it?” This question is especially important in matters of your home. There are pros and cons when it comes to the choice to expand your house with an add-on room, and you may drive yourself a bit loopy when you start dwelling on them.

We’re an experienced general contractor with history in the area, and we’ve worked on projects as small and minor bathroom remodels to as big as hillside house construction. If you’re on the fence about a room addition, arrange with us for an estimate. We can help you make the right choice, one you’ll feel good about. Even better, we’ll see you get the results you want.

A Room Addition Is Usually Worth It

We can’t say for 100% certain if a room addition is worthwhile for your house—that’s why we offer estimates and consultations. But as a generalization, room additions are usually a good idea. Here are a few things to keep in mind about a room addition:

  • Think about the benefits of the new space: Why do you want the room addition in the first place? We’re pretty sure it’s not only because you want the house to be bigger. (That’s a Sarah Winchester obsession, not something people do with modern homes.) You want that new room for a specific reason: a work-from-home space for a new business, a bedroom for a new family member, a recreation area for entertaining. The space will be around much longer than the time it takes to build it and soon you won’t even be thinking about what it cost. When you start enjoying and using the new space, you’ll definitely think it was worth the effort.
  • Your home’s value will appreciate: As long as you have an excellent contractor handle the room addition, you can expect the value of your home to increase. In fact, you can expect that the appreciation in value will immediately cover 60% to 90% of the cost of the addition. This is a higher ROI than most bathroom and kitchen remodels.
  • Less expensive than a new home: A room expansion for an expanding family is more cost-effective than buying a new home with the same amount of space.
  • This is your space: This is a subjective judgment, but we think it’s important to point out. This new space will be yours entirely. Since you probably purchased your home rather than constructed it from the ground up, the new space will be a section of it that reflects you more than any other part of the home. There’s something magical about the final product that doesn’t come from most other remodeling projects.

The only major drawback of an add-on room is the hassles it can create during construction. But that’s why you hire a top contractor like us to take on the job. We’re the general contractor in Encino, CA to trust for your room addition construction. Our design/build approach smooths out the process and makes everything easier for you.
