Spring is here, which means it’s the perfect time to make some major improvements to your home. Many people do this every spring in the form of a whole-house spring cleaning, throwing away unwanted items, organizing those that remain, and cleaning hard-to-reach surfaces. If you’ve been considering remodeling, and you want to make spring cleaning a little bit easier this year and for years to come, the following remodeling considerations may be for you.

Remodel a Bathroom or Kitchen for Greater Storage

While a pedestal sink may suit the design of your bathroom, replacing it with a sink with storage underneath can help immensely when it comes to organizing bathroom products, cleaners, makeup, hair products, and more. Adding on storage to the kitchen is even more beneficial. You can ask your contractor to extend cabinetry to the ceiling so that rarely-used items can stow away until you need them.

Choose Easy-to-Clean Surfaces for a Remodel

This is particularly important if your have children or pets. For children, choose a textured floor (vinyl, perhaps) so that kids don’t slip. Linoleum or hardwood can be easy to clean as well, but you should also consider a surface which does not stain easily. Use as little grout as possible (or none at all) for countertops and flooring. Granite is a classic choice for countertops, and stainless steel and laminate also do not have grout.

Replace that Older Kitchen Sink

Is your kitchen sink conducive to a positive spring cleaning experience? Replace your sink with a stainless steel sink with a removable spray faucet for easy cleanup. Choose a deeper sink to make it easier to fill up pots of water for cooking or buckets for cleaning. You can also choose between a sink with one or two bowls; though what’s easier for you during cooking or cleanup depends largely on preference.
